Radish Detox Smoothie

Now this is a new one even for me ...

My cousin just saw my smoothie picture and said radishes in a smoothie Yems? I said why not? ha-ha!! ...it is edible and a good detox and won't kill me so I might as well give it a try.

Radishes may not be the first ingredient that comes to mind when you want to make a smoothie but I can assure you that they can be safely used in a smoothie with many other sweet or savory recipes.

Radishes

I love radishes especially in my salads and decided to make a smoothie with it.

Radishes offer many health benefits and you should consider eating them frequently. They contain Vitamin C, zine, B--complex vitamins and many others. All of these are very effective in treating skin disorders such as rashes and dry skin.

Fruit Quiz #1

Happy Fabulous Friday!!

Once a week I'll upload a quiz, tips relating to food and fruits, something interactive that will get my readers chatting.

So today I have our first fruit quiz.

I know this isn't the easiest fruit quiz as there are some very interesting fruits on here but hopefully it will inspire you to try out some of the wonderful variety of mother nature's produce.

A few days ago one of my little sisters said  " Yems your blog is not Africa friendly, I can not find the fruits you use". I laughed my head off. The exotic fruits you use are too expensive in Africa she said.

I bet when she sees this fruit quiz she will have something to say. haha!!

I will try and and use very simple fruits in my smoothies for those who can not find my exotic fruits in their countries.

Go ahead take part in the quiz by leaving your answers below in the comments box:

1.
2.
3.
4.

Can you name these fruits?

Have fun and No Cheating!

Ginger, Mango & Pear Smoothie

Hello Smoothie Lovers,

Happy Sunday!!
Happy New Month -June 1st!!

It's my cousin's birthday today...so a quick shout-out to my cousin.
Happy Birthday Fem!! I'll make you a special birthday smoothie when I see you- God Bless You!!

We have now reached the last month in the second quarter of 2014! There's an old saying
" Time and tide waits for no man " and indeed the months are flying by in 2014!

The start or beginning of every new month is a good time to take stock and look back at that list. What list might you ask? I call it an achievement list or list of things to do!!

I am a pen to paper sort of person, so in as much as I have a lot of space in my memory I love to write things down, this way I can always go back and review them. Even a simple daily to do list is noted on a post it not for me. You should see the taste of the wall above my desk- it's covered in post it notes of things to do:-)

I don't know about you but I have an achievement list of things to do before the end of 2014 and each month as I complete them I tick them off and if need be I'll  carry them over to the following month.I am very pleased to say that my list is coming along nicely and I have only carried over two actions into June which I will most definitely complete by the end of June- So help me God.

One thing that I have noticed is that if you do not plan for yourself, the world will plan for you!

So I'll urge you to make that list today,it is never too late and we still have six more wonderful months to go before the end of 2014. Believe that with God all things are possible so take that leap of faith and go ahead and do those things  that you have always dreamt of doing and you'll be glad at the end of 2014 that you made that list.

Today I have a lovely recipe for you.

Ingredients
  • 2 pears
  • coconut water/ water
  • ginger
  • Slices of tinned frozen mangoes

Instructions
  • I decided to peel the skin off my pears as I wanted to ensure that the smoothie didn't turn brown or have brown bits in it from the skin of the pears.
  • Peel the pears, chop  and place in blender, add frozen mangoes, ginger and coconut water or water
  • Blend till smooth and serve cold

Breakfast:The Most Important Meal Of The Day!

Good Morning,

Breakfast is the the most important meal of the day.
It is the first meal of the day after the night you have gone to sleep.

Let's think about this for a second?
You have gone to bed, the food you ate the night before has digested and then you wake up the next day on an empty stomach and skip breakfast. *puzzled face*

Eating breakfast regularly can speed up your metabolism in the morning  and can help you control your weight. Always make sure you have breakfast, don't skip it!

Often people who skip breakfast tend to have a big lunch to make up for missing breakfast, this is not good practice.

I always have breakfast in the morning, even when I am in a hurry, I'll have it on the go in form of a morning smoothie.

Ingredients

  • oats
  • raspberries
  • strawberries
  • pomegranates

Pomegranate seeds, Raspberry and Strawberry

If you do not have the above fruits in your fridge you can add other fruits to your porridge/oats such as grapes, dried raisins, apples, nuts, kiwis, peeled oranges, sliced bananas and lots more.

Check out the other breakfast porridge on the blog

Have a lovely morning and remember to have breakfast!!

Watermelon & Banana Juice

We've had some beautiful weather today in London and watermelon is the best fruit to cool you down after a long hot day in the sunshine.

Watermelons are a great fruit to help you hydrate and cool down in the summer heat. Also, since it's mostly made up of water, watermelon makes a refreshing cool drink.

Despite being mainly water and sugar, watermelons are actually a very good source of vitamin c (which provides protection against immune system deficiencies) and vitamin A -which promotes good eye site.

Today we will be making a very simple and yet refreshing watermelon and banana juice.

Ingredients
  • 2 bananas
  • half of a watermelon
  • Ice cubes (I rarely use ice cubes as my fruits are always frozen)

Instructions
  • Remove the watermelon from the skin and place in a blender, cut the bananas and put in the blender, add the ice and blend until smooth.
  • Pour into glass cup and serve cold.
