NutriBlast Green Smoothie On The Go For BreakFast

What is Moringa Powder?

The leaves of the Morgina Oleifera tree are dried and powdered to create Moringa Leaf Powder. This powder is classified a super food because it is one of the most nutrient-rich plants known to science.

Moringa is a more effective food source, making it easier for the body to do what it needs to do to stay healthy. That is what it gives you energy - it provides good fuel that needs less processing, and adds element that helps the body get rid of what it does not need.

DIY Fun Smoothie Ice Creams For Kids

Summer is here ...well not for us in the United Kingdom! Did I hear someone say here she goes again ranting about the weather? I can't help it as it's rained cats and dogs all week and there is still no news  of the sunshine :-(

When and If the sun does come out I will like moms and pops to try this DIY fun smoothie ice cream for the kids. Get the kids involved, let them choose the smoothie and make sure it is a nice mix of fruits and vegetables.

This is another way to ensure they have their fruits and vegetables but in a fun way....bit sneaky ha ha!! but if they like it then it will be a winner all round!!

Tools
  • Ice cube tray
  • strawberries
  • low fat yogurt
  • plastic cups
  • little wooden holders ( I didn't have any so i used a used a straw(You can pick the little wooden forks up when you go to the chip shop haha! or get some from the store)
  • smoothie mix ( I used the leftovers from my green and mango smoothie)

Instruction
  • pour yogurt in the ice cube tray and place strawberry on top, you can do the same with any other fruit
  • Pour  the green smoothie in  the plastic cup, pop some green grapes in and put the ice cream stick in and put it in the freezer overnight
OR
  • Cut  a nice mix of fruits such as strawberries, kiwis, blueberries, oranges, grapes  and place them in the plastic cup, add some orange juice and freeze. This will also make a nice healthy fruit ice cream for the kids.

Green Smoothie Ice Cream and Mango Smoothie for Kids

I think the kids will love it and it's different from the normal sweet and sugar coated ice creams that they are used to. You can make a fun ice cream smoothie with any smoothie mix you like but ensure it is  a mix of fruits and vegetables for them to cool down when the hot summer arrives.

Frozen Strawberry & Low Fat Yogurt

Try it and let me know what the kids think?

You can use the frozen  yogurt strawberries as your ice cubes and pop them in your  blender to make your smoothies too!

How to Make A Healthy Smoothie By Diatta Harris

Hello Smoothie Lovers,

I hope you've all had a lovely Tuesday.

As I was doing some research today on the www and making notes for some new recipes the following video popped up in my YouTube recommendations list.

It's a video from Diatta Harris from the Femme Fitale Fit Club. She has a fitness fit blog that talks about fitness, go check it out : http://femmefitalefitclub.com/

In her opening remark she states "drinking smoothies is very popular right now and did you know that you could be sabotaging your fitness gains"?

I smiled when I read the first line and then nodded in agreement when she asked the question did you know it can sabotage your fitness gains?

She further went on to say smoothies are a great way to get in much needed nutrition but too many times people are overloading them with sugar so much so they are no better than drinking a soda or fast food milkshake.

Smoothies are a great way to have a meal if you can't cook or if you don't have time.

In the past she would have a smoothie which consisted of two cups of sweet juice, fruits and then add some protein powder and this was her routine for a year of which she noticed she was not loosing any weight, rather she was gaining weight and she was still exercising.

But smoothies are meant to be healthy aren't they? So why was she gaining weight instead of loosing it? ....One word SUGAR!!

In the video she talks about the sugar intake of smoothies which could have an adverse effect on your fitness gain.

A healthy smoothie should have a good balance of fruits and vegetables (green vegetables), also adding seeds such as Chia and Linseed are also good.

I love a green smoothie mixed with fruit so this was a great eye opener for me. I was also glad to hear that unsweetened milk and the use of water was a good liquid to use when blending your smoothies.

Green Smoothie for Breakfast

I love green smoothies!! If you have never tried a green smoothie I would encourage you to give it a try and start with basic green fruits like kiwis, green grapes and spinach or kale.

My very first green smoothie was really small as I wasn't sure of how it would taste and ever since then, green smoothies have become my go to smoothies every morning.

In one of my previous blogs I talked about 10 benefits of green smoothies and one of them was that green smoothies offer pure nutrition to the body and is also a really good detox for the body packed with lots of nutrients and minerals.

If you are a Green smoothie virgin start your smoothie with the following fruits: Spinach or kale, water, mango and bananas. I am not a fan of ice so I always freeze my fruit as it gives  the smoothie a delicious rich cool taste so I always say "ditch the ice and freeze your fruit".

I always blend the spinach or kale first, then add the other fruits afterwards and voila I have my rich looking green smoothie.

Green Smoothie Recipe
  • handful of spinach or kale
  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 2 frozen Kiwis
  • 2 cups of water
  • Frozen green grapes

A mix of Kale,Green grapes, Bananas and Kiwi
Instructions
  • Put the frozen spinach/kale into the blender, add some water and blend until all the leaves are gone and you can see the rich green texture
  • Add the banana, green grapes, kiwis and blend thoroughly
  • Pour into your class cup
  • Garnish with seeds (Chia or Flaxseeds) or fruits

Green Smoothie Benefits

Hello Smoothie Lovers,

Let's talk about Green smoothies and it's benefits.

I remember the first time I tried a green smoothie, I was petrified of how it would taste and blended a very small portion  but I will admit that once I tasted it I was hooked and I have been addicted to green smoothies ever since.

The truth is I have a green smoothie every morning before I go to work and it gears me up for the day and i must say it's very filling too.

My very first smoothie consisted of Kale, banana, apricot, aloverajuice  and dates which acted as a sweetener.

My First Green Smoothie

Benefits of Green Smoothies

Green smoothies have many health benefits  but here’s a brief introduction to the many advantages of drinking green smoothies on a daily basis:

1. Green smoothies offer pure nutrition. The amount of vitamins you’ll get depends on the fruits and vegetables you choose for the smoothie. However, most fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins A and C. Guava is also high in folate, while avocados provide high amounts of potassium and magnesium.
2. Green smoothies are much healthier than fruit or vegetable juices. When juices are extracted, you get vitamins and minerals but no fiber. However, smoothies are made using the whole fruit/vegetable, so you get all the fiber in your drink.
3. Green smoothies are a great way to eat your veggies without even realizing it. Although most people like fruit, many have trouble getting their daily requirement of veggies. When you make a green smoothie, the taste of the greens is hidden by the taste of the fruit, so you don’t even notice the veggies are there.
4. Green smoothies are easy and quick to make. The only equipment you need is a blender (and a pitcher if you make large amounts and need to store some in the fridge).
5. Homemade green smoothies are cheap. Buying smoothies at a juice bar can set you back as much as £4 a glass. At home, combining fruits and vegetables won’t cost you more than a few pounds. Drinking a glass every day will provide you with all the vitamins you need, a much cheaper (and more natural) option than buying multivitamins.
6. Green smoothies can be a good way to get kids to “eat” their vegetables. You might need to start with a higher proportion of fruit vs. vegetables (for example, 70/30 instead of the standard 60/40) until they get used to the flavor.
7. Green smoothies will provide you with a lasting source of energy. Fruits are a good source of energy, but eaten alone will only provide short bursts of energy (they contain lots of sugars, which are quickly metabolized). Because of their high content of veggies, green smoothies have a balanced sugar content.
8. Green smoothies are low in calories but very filling. Because they contain high amounts of water and fiber, they’ll make you feel as if you just ate a full meal. If you’re trying to lose weight, green smoothies will help fight hunger and cravings while helping the pounds melt off easier.
9. Green smoothies are easy to digest. Because they’re already blended and liquefied, smoothies are quicker to digest. After all, your body no longer needs to work so hard to “break down” the food in order to extract the nutrients. People who suffer from indigestion after eating a heavy meal will also benefit, as smoothies are filling but light.
10. Green smoothies will keep you hydrated. Although one should drink at least eight glasses of water a day, experts believe most people don’t drink even half that amount.

One of the reasons for that is that many people simply don’t like the taste of plain water. If that describes you, simply infuse your water with the fruits you love. For example I add sliced cucumbers, grapes and a slice of lemon to my water and allow it to chill and this makes the bland taste of water tasty and fruit flavored. Try this and you'll be drinking more liquids without even noticing it.

Challenge yourself to have a green smoothie today!!!

Start with small green vegetables such as Baby Spinach ,Cucumber,Lettuce,Avocado, Kiwi then add a banana or some dates to  act as a sweetner and let me know how you get on.

Till next time....
Happy Smoothies
